Monica Pasternak

Veterinary Assistant/ Administrator

I grew up in Calgary with my parents who immigrated from Poland. Growing up I always loved animals and wanted to work with them. I eventually convinced my parents to get our first dog Lolek, a yorkie shih tzu.I completed 2 years of Chemistry at University of Calgary until I decided that I wanted to transfer to the veterinarian technician program. I am currently taking the veterinary technician program at Penn Foster and plan to graduate in 2025. When I am not at work I enjoy hiking, rafting, going on adventures with my husband, and spending lots of time with my dogs.

Madeline Watts

Veterinary Assistant/ Receptionist
My love for animals began early in life, growing up surrounded by the family’s many Boston Terriers, and now living with my cat. Outside of home and work, I cherish opportunities to connect with nature through activities like camping, hiking, and scuba diving, finding joy in every animal encounter along the way. This led me to achieve my Bachelor's degree in Zoology. I am passionate about animals and committed to expanding my knowledge and education in the veterinary field. I am excited to be part of the Sanctuary team, where I can combine my education, hands-on experience, and lifelong passion to provide exceptional care to our clients and their pets. In addition to my role at the clinic, I volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation centre, where I continue to learn and apply new skills in animal care.

Veterinary Assistant/ Receptionist
I grew up in the northwest of the USA. I've always had a passion and love for animals since I was little. I graduated with a bachelors in zoology and have volunteered at humane societies, zoos and wildlife rehabilitation centers. I enjoy continuing to learn about bettering the lives of animals while sharing that knowledge with others.

Tharindu Ranaweera

IT Manager

I am a second-year student at the University of Calgary, majoring in Software Engineering. Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to spend time with many different animals, in addition to my beloved pets at home, which include a rescue rabbit, a rescue cat, and a dog. From a young age, I have been passionate about animals and have always wanted to spend more time with them. I am now grateful to be able to fulfill this passion by interacting with and caring for a variety of animals. My journey with animals has taught me the value of empathy, patience, and dedication. Each animal has a unique personality and needs, and understanding these differences has been both challenging and rewarding.
