Why Regular Cat and Dog Health Care Exams Are Necessary

Regular health care exams for your cat or dog are crucial for ensuring their well-being at Sanctuary Veterinary Hospital.

From puppies and kittens to older pets, these exams are vital for early detection of various health issues. For young animals, concerns may include congenital heart defects, umbilical hernias, persistent baby teeth, and eye problems. As pets age, exams become crucial in identifying symptoms of dental disease, obesity, arthritis, skin masses, gastrointestinal issues, weight loss, behavioral changes, and respiratory problems. Early intervention through these exams can prevent unnecessary suffering and potentially fatal consequences.

To establish proper health care, kittens and puppies should receive essential vaccinations and spaying or neutering before six months of age. As adults, cats and dogs benefit from annual exams until around age 8 or 9, with bi-annual check-ups thereafter, depending on their breed and health status.
