Our Doctors

Dr. Thusari Warnakulasooriya

I grew up on a farm in a small village in Sri Lanka. I was the helper for my dad at our poultry farm. We had a family of Dachshunds as well as native dogs which I took care of. Besides that I was also the caregiver of orphaned birds, rabbits and chipmunks. As a result I grew a strong bond with animals which led me to become a veterinarian.

After graduating from the University of Peradeniya with honours, I worked in Sri-Lanka as a Government Veterinarian and eventually had my own practice. I immigrated to Canada in 2005 and as I was really enthusiastic to get into the veterinary profession I enrolled in the Veterinary Skills Training and Enhancement Program (VSTEP) in 2010 at the University of Guelph.

After completing the program successfully, I volunteered at the Guelph Humane Society and the Campus Estate Veterinary clinic in Guelph.
I started my working career as a fully licensed veterinarian in Medicine Hat, Alberta in 2012. After that, I joined an Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Calgary as an Emergency Veterinarian as well as a Primary Care Veterinarian. I have extensive experience in small animal Surgery and Medicine as well as caring for exotic animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs and ferrets.

I currently live with my husband and two children and share my home with our little friends Teddy Bear (Dachshund mixed) and a rescued bunny named Mimsy and a kitten named Holly.

Dr. Lalith Ranaweera

My career as a veterinarian started in my home country of Sri Lanka treating a wide variety of animals. I frequently worked in villages that bordered forests, and thus had the incredible opportunity to treat wild animals – the most memorable being elephants.

After moving to Canada with my family, I worked as a laboratory technician at the University of Guelph where I obtained my masters degree. During this time, I qualified as a fully licensed veterinarian in Canada and have worked at multiple veterinary hospitals in Alberta including Medicine Hat, Drumheller, and Calgary.

In my free time, I enjoy consuming various arts, notably those that remind me of my youth back in Sri Lanka. As such, I practice the drums and listen to music. In addition, I value spending time with my family who have been by my side through this journey.
